The driving force behind such massive unscripted series as Discovery’s Deadliest Catch, History’s Ice Road Truckers and A&E’s Storage Wars – to name but a few – will be recognized for his contribution to factual entertainment at the upcoming Realscreen Factual Entertainment Awards.
Thom Beers, executive producer and CEO of Original Productions, will be inducted into the Factual Entertainment Awards Hall of Fame during the third annual awards ceremony, taking place at the Fairmont Miramar in Santa Monica on May 30, during the Realscreen West conference.
When he founded Original Productions in 1997, Beers began producing and distributing a slate of unique, authentic reality programming domestically and internationally. Fifteen years later, his company is one of television’s leading suppliers of unscripted programming, with a string of hits extending to such recent series as Storage Wars and its spin-off, Storage Wars: Texas, and Discovery’s Bering Sea Gold. The award-winning company, now part of the FremantleMedia family, has built a strong relationship with traditional broadcast and cable networks in the United States and throughout the world.
Beers’ ability to combine top-notch storytelling with engaging personalities in high risk circumstances is the cornerstone of the company’s distinctive television brand. In more than a decade of production, he has overseen hundreds of hours of true adventure, unadulterated real life and compelling television programming.
“It is such an honor to be named a 2012 Factual Entertainment Awards Hall of Fame recipient,” said Beers. “I am so fortunate to do what I am passionate about: filming real life heroes in high-risk, high-reward situations.”
“When you’re watching a Thom Beers series, you can count on becoming fully engrossed in the story, and fully adrenalized by what you’re seeing,” said realscreen editor Barry Walsh. “The passion he puts into every project is evident, and as a result, he’s deservedly one of the industry’s most sought-after producers. We’re extremely pleased to honor him with this distinction.”
Last year’s inductees into the Realscreen Factual Entertainment Awards Hall of Fame were Jon Murray, chairman of Bunim/Murray Productions, and Kiss icon Gene Simmons, star of A&E’s long-running Gene Simmons Family Jewels.
Stay tuned to realscreen for further announcements concerning the Factual Entertainment Awards and its Hall of Fame.
