And then the series that were instant Beers’ original hits, including their spin-offs with a standing ovation of ratings success: “Storage Wars”, “Storage Wars:Texas”, “Ice Road Truckers”, and “IRT: Deadliest Roads”. The Los Angeles Times calls Thom Beers a “hit maker more in demand than ever.”
More than 14 of his series are on the air right now, all consistently at the top of the ratings: Who does this? Thom Beers: A world traveler who shares his experiences through film making. A story teller with a unique perspective. And more than anything,
a man who has an authentic fascination with the hands that build America. Men’s Journal touts him as “the man who perfected the genre.”
Thom Beers’ own story unfolds in small town America, the city of Batavia in upstate
New York. He began his career as an actor performing in stage productions along the eastern seaboard and in New York City. Today, Beers is still utilizing his acting skills by delivering the powerful narration for many of Original Productions’ remarkable series.
He founded Original Productions in 1997, after 11 years as a production executive and series and special producer for Turner Broadcasting in Atlanta and a similar position in Los Angeles at Paramount Pictures. But it was at Turner Original Productions where Thom Beers began his now long-standing winning streak for Superstation TBS.
Award-winning “National Geographic Explorer”, “Network Earth”, “The Jacques Cousteau” Specials, and “Wild!Life Adventures” were all guided by Thom Beers.
He was the producer of the highest-rated special in the history of Turner Original Productions including “Harley Davidson: The American Motorcycle”, “Cats And Dogs” and “The Incredible Life and Times of Robert L. Ripley, Believe It or Not”.
When it came time to take a real chance on himself, with his own company, Thom Beers began working with what he knows best: working class Americans. He produced the stylized documentary film, “Motorcycle Mania II”, and “Deadliest Jobs” for Discovery Networks. While he was filming the deadliest job of crab fishing on the Bering Sea, Beers’ curious nature wondered about the captains and the crews of the fishing vessels and what their lives were like, spending each day in harm’s way. How did it feel?
Who are these guys? Do they know how amazing they are?
His inquisitive mind developed what became a signature Thom Beers’ show, the mega hit series, “Deadliest Catch”. Now filming its eight season, “Deadliest Catch” is Discovery’s highest –rated series and has been honored with six Primetime Emmy® Awards including Outstanding Reality Program in 2011.
Thom Beers has more of the world to experience and explore. So, he sold a majority stake of his company to FremantleMedia in 2009. The deal has allowed him to travel the world with his one-of-a kind vision, telling stories about true working class heroes.
He’s a devoted father and husband, an avid car collector and motorcycle enthusiast; And as you might expect, Thom Beers is a sought after speaker at conferences and meetings worldwide.
